Do we really need another? Maybe animation will make things better. Sony has announced they are developing a second Starship Troopers sequel, followed by two other terrible straight-to-DVD sequels 1997-sci-fi military action directed by Paul Verhoeven. The new one is titled Starship Troopers: Invasion and will be animated, which is not the first time in this franchise has happened - there was the animated series called "Roughnecks" in 1999 too. Lead is Shinji Aramaki of Appleseed and Appleseed: Ex Machina, and a segment of Halo Legends soon. This sounds really impressive.

I am certainly a big fan of the original Starship Troopers, although I have lived away from suites, knowing they were horrible. But something about this new animation caught my attention. It is a production blog on Tumblr update on the project and this is badass concept art above is the teaser poster. According to reports on ShockTillYouDrop Casper Van Dien could return to the voice of Johnny Rico and Ed Neumeier, screenwriter of all three Starship Troopers films are also in the mix as executive producer. The script for this one is by Flint Dille, who has worked on several video games in the history department and cartoons. Here's the synopsis of publication:

A remote spot Federation is attacked by insects and equipment fast attack ships Alesia is assigned to help evacuate survivors and provide military intelligence to the ground safely. Before the attack the ship can be found with the boat, Carl Jenkins, now the Ministry of War Paranormal, the ship has a secret mission and disappears in the nebula. The experienced soldiers are responsible for a rescue mission that could have a much more sinister than he ever could have imagined.

Sounds a bit 'vague as I expected, we do not know exactly how Rico is or what this is all a secret mission, but I'm concerned. The only interesting detail from their post on the blog just so far, saying: "We really want this article Starship Troopers franchise to be a well-known space battles, gravel, and mind-blowing." Okay, I have taken, I am, if you are able to provide kick-ass space battles and what kind of activities that the original bug Troopers Verhoeven is known / loved. Starship Troopers: Invasion has inspired Alone, Digital Arts, Inc. in Japan for the 2012 summer release. Although I expect this is going straight to DVD again, I can not wait to do it anyway.
